upon launching the game and logging in for the first time, you'll be greated by this screen.

here you can preview the characters. at the moment, there are 15 characters you can choose from.

each character has their own unique playstyle, skills, and mechanics.

however, you can (you're encouraged to, really) have multiple characters.

you're not stuck with your first choice for life, so don't be afraid to pick whoever you think looks coolest.

upon choosing a character, you'll have to name them.

this is just like making any other in-game name.

after that, you're ready to begin the game.
